Copper Ridge Sock

View on Ravelry

For these socks I made ridges by purling every fourth round. I thought it would be fun to try a horizontal texture like this, instead of the more usual vertical ribbbing. I did 62 sts as a compromise between my recent 60-stitch socks (which are a bit too snug) and my older 64-stitch socks (which seem perfect at first, but then stretch out too much).

I forgot about dealing with the transitions at the start of the round, so the ridges have clear jumps on one side. There’s also a line of loose purls on the other side from the magic loop, but I think it looks fine.

After the heel, I worked the top and bottom flat, as I always do now. Luckily the pattern works out the same: you still purl one in every four rows, since it’s like garter but with every other ridge eliminated. I forgot to maintain a stockinette selvedge on top, but sewing it worked fine anyway.

I ran out of yarn towards the end, so for both socks I alternated with a similar but more colorful yarn in the toe. You can hardly notice it. It was annoying having to weave in extra ends though.
