Chocolate chip cookies
Ingredients
- 1 cup butter
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 54 g beaten egg (from 1 to 2 eggs)
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 tsp salt
- 6 oz chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 ºF.
- Mix white and brown sugar. Cream with butter until light and fluffy.
- Fold in eggs after beating them well.
- Sift together flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Add to sugar mixture with vanilla.
- Stir in chocolate chips and mix thoroughly.
- Drop balls of dough onto baking tray.
- Cook for 8 to 10 minutes.
- Leave on pan for 2 minutes, then cool on a wire rack.
Makes about 50 cookies.
Notes
- The baking time is critical, and will vary by oven. The cookies should not look done when you take them out. They continue to cook as they cool.
- For a fun variation, try adding 2 tbsp instant coffee, 2 tsp pumpkin spice, and 1 tsp cinnamon.
- You can use shortening instead of flour for cookies that last longer but don’t taste quite as good.
- Store cookies in an airtight container otherwise they will harden.
